Essential Oils For Multiple Sclerosis Relief

Essential oils have been used for millennia, but they are now the newest craze. Plant extracts called essential oils are meant to capture the essence of the original species. The scientific evidence for these items’ medical effects is minimal. Plants have been utilized as medicine since prehistoric times, in the form of teas, salves, and oils, to treat a variety of diseases and afflictions. Aside from these therapeutic benefits, including essential oils into our daily routine may have a significant impact on our overall health by utilizing the odors. Fibromyalgia Syndrome Relief will uncover a few secrets about essential oils for multiple sclerosis.

MS and essential oils

Multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) happens when the autoimmune system mistakenly attacks the fatty tissue called myelin, which surrounds nerve fibers and has the duty to protect them. Although MS is a central nervous system disease, its symptoms impact the entire body. Some of those early symptoms can be named as blurred double vision, color distortions, numbness, balance loss, extreme fatigue, heat sensitivity, etc. depending on the types and levels of MS. The symptoms also get worse and have different occurred orders for different types. Besides, there are uncommon symptoms like breathing or hearing problems, headaches, seizures, etc.

In order to help MS patients, you should remind them to stick to an optimally healthy diet, exercise regularly, clean living environment, support them with sleep issues and the most important thing is to always bring them positivity and care.

Essential oils

Essential oils root from plants using a variety of methods, including distillation heating and cold pressing. Because essential oils aren’t to consume orally, ingesting them can be harmful. They instead are for breathing or applying to the skin. The limbic system, which helps decide mood as well as govern respiration, heart rate, and blood pressure, may be stimulated by inhaling the smells of essential oils.

Essential oils for nerve pain

Despite the fact that the use of essential oils in the treatment of MS has witnessed no exclusive research, research indicates the compounds might help manage some of the condition’s symptoms. They may also aid in the treatment of other health issues that are frequently under association with MS.

Plant medicine is still widely utilized today to treat a variety of illnesses. Aloe vera, for example, is for burn injuries, ginger to treat gastrointestinal disorders, and eucalyptus to treat nasal problems. Colds, headaches, and aching muscles can all be helped with the use of essential oils.

Essential oils are quite popular to soothe nerves, reduce tension, and improve mood. Essential oils for MS can help patients overcome anxiety and depression, which are frequent behavioral health issues. Aromatherapy with lavender enhanced sleep quality and decreased anxiety in patients with coronary artery disease. Aromatherapy using lavender and rosemary essential oils may enhance cognitive function and prevent the course of memory loss and dementia. Memory loss and cognitive function difficulties are also signs of MS. Peppermint, vanilla, lavender, and frankincense (and maybe others) have been shown to help with pain, which is another typical symptom of MS.

Best essential oils for multiple sclerosis

Essential oils from plants such as orange, peppermint, orange, ylang-ylang, rosemary, and lavender have been increasingly popular in recent years. But, because not all essential oils are under equal production, how can we know which ones are of higher quality?

High-quality essential oils for MS are important. Do some research on the brand’s quality before ordering or purchasing essential oils from a shop. You could also want to inquire about the essential oils for nerve pain people buy from.

Essential oils at a store will almost certainly need dilution before direct application to the skin. Mixing the essential oil with a carrier oil like aloe vera oil, coconut oil, or olive oil is a popular technique.

When utilized correctly, essential oils and MS may be quite beneficial. Do some research, talk to a healthcare expert, and get the finest quality you can afford before you start using essential oils. Never consume them or put them in your food or drink. Also, never apply essential oils to your skin undiluted.

Fibromyalgia Service Dog

Reasons Why Chronic Pain Patients Need Fibromyalgia Service Dog Breeds

If you have never heard of fibromyalgia, you’re kinda lucky. Fibromyalgia is not that rare. It is a pain disorder that affects millions of people each year within the US. People who are patients of this condition should feel hurt almost everywhere on their bodies due to heightened pain response to pressure.

Not only do they suffer from chronic widespread pain but they also have symptoms like depression and memory problems that can disrupt normal activities. Therefore, patients must come up with a method to reduce daily pain to a tolerable level.

That’s why people nowadays often rely on a fibromyalgia service dog. This article will explain how a service dog can help alleviate the pain of fibromyalgia sufferers.

What Is A Service Dog?

Before jumping to the part of “what tasks can a service dog do for fibromyalgia”, we need to first understand the basic terms.

Get ready, this might blow your mind in seconds. A service dog is different from a therapy dog, or other kinds of emotional support animals.

Therapy dogs are famous for their capability of providing comfort, love, and affection for people around them. For the most part, they are just good dogs being all smiles and tender without causing any trouble. Hence, neither does a therapy dog need sophisticated training nor special skills.

Emotional support dogs are like therapy dogs, except that they have some more privileges. For example, an emotional support dog will have permission to travel on a plane or does not have to comply with pet policies in some places.

Both therapy dogs and emotional support dogs are under appreciation for their effort in easing mental pain, but not in physical assistance. This is why service dogs stand out from the crowd, getting recommends for specialized tasks – such as caring for disabled individuals or chronic pain patients.

In other words, a service dog provides the owner with support regarding both emotional and physical needs. These days, they have been serving diabetes, autism, and chronic pain patients all over the world.

Sometimes, they are around just to a pet for you to cuddle up, and make their owner feel better. Sometimes, they perform a variety of working tasks with specific purposes – such as service dog tasks for fibromyalgia.

The most familiar type of service dog is a guide dog that helps its blind owner with navigating and avoiding obstacles. Also, there are service dogs for alerting people with hearing impairments or assist them with mobility and balance problems.

Hence, they have permission to enter almost every public area so that their owner can receive 24/7 care and support.

What Tasks Can A Service Dog Do For Fibromyalgia?

For your information, there has not been any direct cure for fibromyalgia that guarantees 100% effectiveness. Recommendations from healthcare experts are medication, self-care, and a healthier lifestyle.

The method of reducing fibromyalgia conditions varies among individuals. Some find relief by implementing medication exercises and steady diets. Some prefer a service dog to assist in their daily needs, which brings about more benefits than you can imagine.

First of all, a fibromyalgia service dog can “scent” the pain and health issues. Apart from their animal instinct, service dogs also can discover abnormalities in their behaviors that indicate problems. They have gone through special training sessions, remember?

Therefore, it is no surprise for fibromyalgia patients that their service dogs detect the presence of body pains, tiredness, or anxiety disorders. At that moment, they will immediately find a way to comfort their owner by lying next to and cuddling up.

In case you feel pain and need mobility support, your service dog is bound to move alongside and brace itself against your body. Furthermore, these dogs are professional enough to know and act when you struggle to do something, such as picking up or pushing/pulling something out of the way…

A fibromyalgia service dog can’t act as a cure for this syndrome, but it is sure to make life easier for all patients.

How To Get A Service Dog For Chronic Pain Sufferers?

If you are or know someone who is a fibro-patient, do not hesitate to consider getting a service dog.

However, you need to contact a local doctor or animal shelter to seek more information, since there may not be any service dog trainers in town. Also, a doctor can provide you with detailed instructions, the pros, and cons of having your service dog. When you both settle on a deal, he will begin to guide you through the next steps.

Getting in touch with a reputable and authorized service dog/assistance dog organization is another straightforward way. Yet, keep in mind that you’ll need quite a sum of money because these dogs are carefully bred and trained.
That’s all you need to do, isn’t it? From there, you may be asked to make another decision: Whether you want an already trained dog or a specially trained one that meets the exact requirements for your condition.

Thus, it is necessary to thoroughly understand your condition and daily needs. Many fibromyalgia patients have trouble moving around and doing physical tasks, while some others may suffer more from mental effects.

Of course, it comes with a higher price and more time before you can have your best animal friend come home.
Last but not least, don’t forget that you must complete the process by registering the dog at the US Service Animals website and receive proper documentation. Otherwise, your dog will not be fully accessible to all the privileges of an official service dog, even when it was trained and approved by medical facilities.

In conclusion, fibromyalgia will never keep you from doing what you love. A loving service dog is sure to give a warm, positive vibe and help you get through all the fears. Such a pleasure to have their company, to know that they’ll do their best to keep us happy and healthy at all costs.

Meaningful Gifts For People With MS

There is not any clear reason for how MS begins, but when a person is diagnosed with this disease, we all know they are going to go through a lot of pain and struggle. In this blog, Fibromyalgia Syndrome Relief will help you know more about MS and show you how to pick the most meaningful gifts for people with MS.

What are MS patients going through

Wonderful multiple sclerosis gifts for MS patients

Multiple sclerosis gifts can be from small gestures and daily mundane items to specialized multiple sclerosis products. The key to choosing gifts for someone with ms is knowing your audience. MS warriors need as much positivity as possible, thus you need to know them to think of what would make them happy. Sometimes you can just simply pick up some cool and unique Hyperfavor inspirational MS awareness shirts to lift up their mood, but be careful that some patients might feel like being attacked when receiving specific multiple sclerosis products as the gifts remind them of their disease and might even trigger their symptoms. Hence, remember our suggestions of these following MS gift ideas are solely for reference, what you actually buy has to be varied based on the patients.

Buy them a nice drink

The drink is not necessarily their favorite, which would actually be the best, but you should absolutely avoid the types they dislike or something that is too hot or could increase their body heat which would potentially trigger them. You can take them out to a chill and relaxing cafe or teahouse, order a nice and creamy beverage. If they are in a bad mood and refuse to go out, you can buy them a fancy tea box, instant hot chocolate or lattes. A nice and warm drink always eases out a person whose mind is tense.

Body temperature control

Overheating is dangerous for MS patients as it will trigger pseudo-exacerbation, which makes MS temporarily worse. Therefore, gifts for people with ms which can actually improve their symptoms are items that are useful in hot or humid conditions.

Bandanas that are made of high-quality fabric are great because they can be used as cooling scarves or wrist bands. They can be soaked in cold water, and believe me, MS patients would feel like heavens when wearing them on. Make sure to buy bandanas that are soft and reusable. If you need a higher dose to rapidly cool off the body temperature, just look for some powerful multiple sclerosis products like a heavy-duty cooling vest, which can keep your man stay cool for hours.

A piece of electronic device that can be a little bit high in terms of price is the air conditioner. An AC is the ultimate gift for MS patients with superior cooling functions.

MS gifts that help them out when they are struggling

With the mentioned symptoms, MS fighters usually suffer from all those disabilities. Here are some great gifts for someone with MS which help them have a normal life even when in pain and numbness.

You can buy them a modern and utilized walking cane so they can move when their arms and legs are sore and trembling. A blow dryer that is hand-free and can be hung on anything can lay a helping hand to deal with wet hair, protecting them from catching a cold. Furthermore, daily chore gadgets can make up for the limited mobility of MS patients like vacuum cleaner roombas for dirt cleaning, robotic lawn mower for gardening, electric can opener and slow cooker for cooking, etc.

Soft and comfortable apparel is a great assistance, especially those which can keep the patients warm yet not make them overheated. Fuzzy socks and a weighted blanket are awesome MS gifts that make them feel relaxing, thus reduce anxiety or insomnia and improve their sleep.

If you care for your close friends, family members and relatives who are struggling with this disease and want to understand what they really need, you can find out more information about MS, find events and make donations with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Productivity and home entertainment technology

Vision problems are a common MS symptom. MS gifts that aid them with reading and working with the loss or blur of vision can be named as hand-reading books, electric readers which can enlarge text size and read audiobooks.

A smart house system with voice commands for electronic devices is the biggest help. You can turn on the light, play music, close doors, etc. you name it, just with your voice.

An electric scooter helps them with walking problems so they can go to work or anywhere that is not too far away.

Take them outside and enjoy

Staying at home 24/7 is not good at all. You can gift MS patients with gift cards or coupons or take them out with you to watch a movie, go to a spa or organize an adventure. These activities will absolutely cheer them up, but make sure that you already have arranged someone to do their work when they are outside with you, or they would be extremely stressed dealing with those chores.

Remember, positivity is always the key. If you find our blog helpful, read more about Fibromyalgia Syndrome and related diseases in Advice & Solutions blog category.

Some Essential Oils For Fibromyalgia That I Recommend

One thing I haven’t been able to mention when I talked about my dad’s fibromyalgia stages was how much aromatherapy has been of help to our family. To be honest, I’ve been meaning to write about this subject in a separate post anyway. I’m super into essential oil lately, and if you wish to know, I’m a self-proclaimed oil expert in my family already. But I’ll just talk about essential oils for fibromyalgia first, since they’re the reason why I became obsessed over these extracts.

essential oils for fibromyalgia

Why Aromatherapy?

If you aren’t already familiar with the term yet, it’s a type of treatment that uses scents to improve the patients’ well-being. “Doesn’t that sound a little suspicious?” you might ask, and I completely understand.

I too was skeptical about it at first. It totally seemed like another case of placebo effect, rather than a proper medical treatment. However, as I gradually looked into its origin and how it actually works, my opinion certainly changed (for the better, if you can’t already tell).

Rather than just healing your mind, there is actual science behind how essential oils work on your body as well. The most common practice of aromatherapy is probably through inhaling the essence, with the help of diffusers and inhalers. But do you know that essential oils can be absorbed by the skin also? They can be infused with body lotions and creams, or even dispersed through steamers.

The way aromatherapy works is by stimulating the sensory receptors, specifically your sense of smell. The receptor proceeds to send a message through your nervous system to the limbic system. This is the part of the brain that’s in charge of your emotions and hormones. Therefore, if it receives positive signals – a relaxing smell for example, you will feel a sense of soothing and relief.

It is proven that different essential oils will have unique healing effects on your body. This is because the way they stimulate your sense of smell also differs. Thus, combining different oils into a blend just for you will show even more health benefits. In general, aromatic essences are believed to bring these common effects:

  • Relieve stress and anxiety
  • Reduce headaches and migraines
  • Improve the quality of sleep
  • Boost your immune system and metabolism
  • Manage pain and sooth sore muscles/joints

The Relationship Between Fibromyalgia And Essential Oils

Now we know the benefits of using essential oils, let’s go back to how they have helped improve my dad’s fibromyalgia condition.

As for now, there isn’t any perfect cure for fibromyalgia, unfortunately. Patients can only do so much to relieve their pain, but it won’t go away forever. That’s why a long term and sustainable therapy is very important for the patient’s well-being, both mentally and physically.

This is where fibromyalgia essential oils come in handy. Compared to some other types of therapy such as acupuncture or massage, they cost less and are easier to maintain at your own home. For people whose pain is too much for them to exercise, or are suffering from mental distress as a result of bearing pain for too long, they are incredibly helpful.

However, one thing you need to remember is that you can’t rely solely on aromatherapy to improve your health. Don’t hesitate to consult with your doctor to know what combination of treatments suits the level of your condition. You might need additional pain relievers or vitamins, but essential oils will undoubtedly provide extra therapeutic effects.

Finding suitable oil blends for fibromyalgia is also a process that requires attention. No fibromyalgia patient experiences the same kind of pain, and different types of oil will have different benefits. In addition, some scents don’t go together when mixed (from my own experience!).

Thus, you might need to confirm with an experienced therapist to see if a specific blend will do the job or not. But you can always try separate oils to see how they affect your condition.

What Essential Oils Are Good For Fibromyalgia?

Based on both my research and our family’s experience, these are a few suggestions for the best essential oils for fibromyalgia pain and fatigue:

1. Capsicum

Capsaicin – a component typically found in chili peppers – is very commonly used in pain relieving creams and supplements.

In a study in 2013 and 2017, researchers have confirmed that the regular use of highly concentrated capsaicin can have the same effects with other therapies of chronic pain. Not only did they relieve the pain, there were also improvements in sleep, fatigue, depression, and quality of life.

Capsicum oil extract, when applied topically, can help soothe the aching in areas such as the joints or lower back.

2. Basil

In a study conducted in 2015, researchers have looked into the effect of basil leaf oil extracts on chronic non-inflammatory pain, specifically fibromyalgia. The demonstrations showed that basil essential oils have an important anti-hyperalgesic characteristic – meaning they can help reduce the sense of pain.

Therefore, this oil is a great therapeutic option for treatment of chronic pain conditions. Further studies will provide more insights on its mechanism, and can very likely increase its pharmaceutical use.

3. Lavender

My personal favorite, lavender extract might probably be one of the best essential oils for fibromyalgia. Even if you don’t have chronic pain, it will still bring you many health improvements. This oil can be a pain reliever and stress reliever at the same time.

Inhaling lavender scents will result in a calming effect, which improves the quality of your mental health. Fibromyalgia patients can find themselves less anxious and have better sleep quality.

Moreover, when diluted and applied directly to the skin, lavender oil can produce responses similar to analgesic medications. It significantly reduces inflammation and sores.

4. Ginger

Ginger has been proven to have many medical benefits. Other than improving your digestive system and ease stomach pain, it can aid in managing pain as well. Ginger essential oil smells amazing, and when applied to the skin, it can have the same effects as capsicum oil.

5. Peppermint and citrus

Finally, some extra essential oils for fibromyalgia that I want to suggest are peppermint and citrus. Though my dad found them less effective than the oils mentioned above, it was probably because of his own condition. These oils also have pain relieving results, and I love how fresh and calming they smell. You can definitely give them a try, and chances are they might work wonderfully for you.

essential oils for fibromyalgia

A final reminder to anyone who is thinking about buying essential oil, is that many of these oils are toxic and should not be ingested. They can also cause allergies and side effects, so make sure to do your research and patch testing. The oil should not be applied directly on your skin as a concentrated extract – always dilute them with carrier substances.

Stages Of Fibromyalgia: What I Have Been Through

My Family’s Experience With Fibromyalgia

You might be thinking: “What? How can you already have fibromyalgia when you’re still so young?”. Well, let me tell you a story of why we’re talking about the stages of fibromyalgia in the first place.

Stages Of Fibromyalgia

Around the time when I was in grade school, my dad started having strange symptoms of fatigue. It wasn’t the normal type of just exhaustion.

What my dad felt was described as “unexplainable muscle pain” throughout the body. Every morning, he had terrible headaches and stiff joints. He clearly wasn’t overworking or anything. And he used to be a very active guy who seemed to have all the energy in the world.

We waited a few days to see if it would get better… But it just seemed to get worse. Even when my dad was clearly trying to rest as much as he could, his body showed no sign of feeling better. He couldn’t sleep too well with the pain, and this kept on for about a month or so until we got really worried.

What confused us was that apart from the aching, there were no other indications of what could have been the cause. We thought it was kind of like influenza symptoms with body pain. However, tests from the hospitals showed that influenza wasn’t the case, either. It was as baffling as when I had that weird cold water feeling in my head out of nowhere!

stages of fibromyalgia

It was very stressful for my dad and our family members. As positive of a guy as my dad was, he obviously couldn’t stay tolerated forever. And as a family, we also wanted him to be healthy and well.

During a visit to the hospital, a doctor suggested that fibromyalgia might be the case, but they had to run some diagnosis to make sure. So my dad took the doctor’s words and got the needed tests, and the diagnosis turned out to be true.

What is Fibromyalgia? How To Detect Early Symptoms Of Fibromyalgia?

From my dad’s case, it’s clear that fibromyalgia is a condition that causes pain all over the body, resulting in fatigue and mental distress. You can also say that people with fibromyalgia are very sensitive to pain – meaning their pain perception process is not performing normally.

This condition 6 times more likely to affect women than men, and it’s a surprisingly common condition. Some celebrities also talked about their battle with fibromyalgia. You can check out what Lady Gaga said about her chronic pain and fibromyalgia in her documentary.

There has been no confirmed cause to the syndrome, since the reason behind it might vary. But there are possible factors such as stress, trauma, or physical injuries.

Some common signs, and stages of fibromyalgia that a person with fibromyalgia might be displaying:

  • Pain all over the body
  • Joint and muscle stiffness
  • Fatigue and sleep problems
  • Mental distress such as anxiety and depression
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Have a hard time concentrating
stages of fibromyalgia

According to the NHS UK, to diagnose fibromyalgia, there are certain criteria that must be met, and these are the most common ones:

  • Severe pain in 3 to 6 different areas of your body, or you have milder pain in 7 or more different areas
  • Symptoms have persisted and stayed the same for at least 3 months
  • No other health problem present that can explain the symptoms

The Stages Of Fibromyalgia

There are still many undiscovered aspects of fibromyalgia, even for doctors. But what we do know is that genetics can also cause fibromyalgia. For example, if it does run in the family, then I might bear a chance of having fibromyalgia from my dad (hypothetically, since we haven’t been able to confirm this yet).

Therefore, some people who do have the genes may already be in the beginning stages of fibromyalgia. Although present, it doesn’t cause any pain to the patient yet.

The second fibromyalgia stage happens when a patient starts experiencing pain in a few body parts. The aching starts mildly, and most people would just assume that it’s just regular muscle pain. The symptoms weren’t clear enough so people don’t know that they’re having fibromyalgia. They often don’t consult their doctors right away either. Only a few experienced physicians might be able to recognize fibromyalgia at this point.

The patient will go into the third stage when they suffer from severe pain in specific areas of the body, not generalized pain anymore. This will start causing fatigue and loss of sleep. At this stage, doctors can diagnose fibromyalgia.

During the fourth stage, the patient continues to experience pain, but now it has spread to more areas. Their fatigue would get worse, and they might begin going through mental distress. At this stage doctor diagnosed my dad with fibromyalgia . So fortunately he didn’t suffer from any severe health effect.

During the last stages of fibromyalgia – which are the fifth and sixth stages, the patient’s body will meet with separate health problems. These complications arise with association to fibromyalgia. In the fifth stage, these problems are addressed and treated separately from fibromyalgia. However, when the patient enters the last stage, they become coexisting diseases. These include:

  •  Infections
  • Severe mental illness
  • Various joint and muscle related problems

So in total, there are 6 stages of fibromyalfia that the patient might go through. Although not many people can detect fibromyalgia right away, knowing this may help prevent associated diseases that can come with the condition.

Helping Someone With Fibromyalgia

From what our doctor consulted with our family, there is no foolproof cure or 100% effective medicine for fibromyalgia. But don’t feel discouraged just yet – we still have different types of aid that can sooth the pain.

It might sound weird telling a person with fibromyalgia to exercise more, yet it’s actually a good way to improve the body’s condition. Some aerobic or muscle exercise can be a good treatment. Doctor advised my dad to try walking regularly. Doing yoga and breathing exercises also helps manage stress better.

You can always go for physical remedies as well if your pain can’t seem to be relieved with just prescribed drugs. Ask your doctor for a treatment plan that includes other supplementary therapies, like chiropractic care or acupuncture.

Finally, your diet can play a big role in fibromyalgia treatment. Try cutting down gluten to see if it has any changes to your condition, since gluten sensitivity might be a cause. On the other hand, increase the amount of low-sugar power food that provides you with energy. Avocados, different nuts and oatmeal can energize you all day. Maintaining a balanced diet can help boost metabolism, thus counter body fatigue.

This has been a very interesting study for me. Though I fortunately don’t have fibromyalgia, I can still use the information to support my dad’s treatment. And luckily, it does show positive results! So I really hope I can help anyone out there who is having fibromyalgia or knows someone with the condition.

Leave a comment if you have any further questions. I’d love to hear you out!
